13 days ago we first mentioned a model glimpse of this storm forming, it evolved into a hypothetical surf maker, started to form over East Africa pretty much on script but looked a lot less likely to create East coast surf by failing to turn into an organised, surf generating storm on schedule. Now in a final twist to the tale it HAS found the energy to become Tropical Depression Eight. Sadly too late to create East coast surf as turns back east.
Weak, unlikely to intensify and crucially, going the wrong way. Tropical Depression Eight marks a sad end to what could have been. An outer banks blasting Gordon, or even a more modest surf generating Helene becomes another 2012 also ran at best producing modest swell for the already surf blasted Azores.
